The year 2012 has come and gone, and so has its color trends. With a new year brings new home design trends and new ways to transform your décor from drab to fab! This week we are focusing on upcoming color trends for 2013 and they all have one thing in common, BOLD is the way to go.
This year’s color trends are going to include lots of bright and bold hues that make a room pop with sophistication. Every year Pantone dubs a “Color of the Year” that they feel is going to be most prominent in home décor. This year’s color of the year has been selected and we couldn’t agree more with their decision. Emerald Green is the perfect color for any room from the living room to the bedroom because it is so representative of stability, prosperity and harmony.
Use Emerald to brighten up a muted room. Paint three major walls with a darker shade, like a brown, and use the fourth wall as an accent emerald pop of color. This makes the room striking without over doing it.
If you prefer something a little more subtle, stick with the brown walls and use emerald accents like an emerald fabric couch or throw pillows, or even emerald tiles lining your fireplace mantle or counter in your kitchen.
If green isn’t your forte, don’t you worry, there are many other fun and playful hues to choose from this year. Bright hues of blue such as ocean blue and turquoise are making a bold appearance this year along with bright citrus orange, vibrant shades of yellow, purple and magenta. Here are some ways you can take advantage of these adventurous colors without letting them overpower your space.
This living room uses two of this year’s bright hues, yellow and purple, against a muted background of grays and light floral patterns. The colors pop against the simple couch and draw your eye into the detail. We absolutely love this design.
Yellow is a great color to use against a bare palette. The white couch and walls are brought to life by the yellow and patterned throw pillows. The yellow lamp shade, curtains and side table bring the whole color scheme together. This room screams light, airy and ready for spring!
Blue is a great color to work with in your home because it is a color that is refreshing and easy on the eye, yet bold enough to make a statement. Blue is also great to work with because it is easily combined with different shades of its own. Like this living room, the ocean blue walls flow easily into the darker blue striped curtains and chairs.
If a room full of blue seems intimidating to you, go for a more simple way to add this year’s vibrant color to your décor. An old piece of furniture can be repainted with a bright turquoise shade and off set with white fixtures and wood accents.
Orange may be the most bold and out of the box color out of all of this year’s color trends, but don’t fear because tangerine is here! This citrus color instantly adds a playful touch to any room and even looks great in moderation. Start with a throw pillow or a vase to test out how you feel before attacking the whole room. This color is for the fearless of the bunch, and that is exactly how your guests will feel as soon as they enter your home!
